On Thursday 25th September 2025, So They Can hosted its launch event in the UK, Generously hosted by Simmons & Simmons at their London offices, the event marked an exciting new organisational chapter.

The UK launch also marked the beginning of an urgent fundraising drive to complete 2 essential infrastructure projects in Baringo, Kenya, to enable 300+ girls to attend school with dignity and confidence:

• A girls’ changing room at Perkerra Primary School
• A girls’ toilet block at Nakoko Primary School

Thanks to the generosity of our new UK community, we were able to raise enough to fully fund both of these important infrastructure projects.

10 months on, we are now delighted to share a progress update on these projects with our community.

Perkerra Primary School:

In November 2025, So They Can initiated the construction of a two-door girls’ changing room at Perkerra Primary School. The project aimed at providing girls with a safe and comfortable learning environment, waste disposal options during menstruation, and to improve school retention and increased participation in extra-curricular activities.

The construction work was carried out by So They Can under the supervision of the school administration, completed in December 2025, operationalised in January 2026 and is now in use by the school communities.

As Ms. Samoei, Deputy Head Teacher, shared: ‘Thank you So They Can for constructing the changing room. Girls now have confidence and are not stressed about periods because they have a safe place to change. Their confidence has increased and there is a reduction in menstrual stigmatisation’.

Nakoko Primary School:

The construction of a two-door girls’ toilet at Nakoko Primary School likewise began in November 2025 with the objective of creating a clean, safe and conducive learning environment for learners. The project was also undertaken to support the retention of learners, particularly girls, in school by ensuring access to proper sanitation facilities.

Completed in January 2026, the project has contributed significantly to enhancing sanitation and promoting the wellbeing of learners within the school. As Kiptoo, aTeacher at Nakoko Primary School explains: ‘The toilets have improved hygiene and comfort for learners in the school, creating a better learning environment’.
