Where We Work

So They Can works in Kenya and Tanzania

In Kenya we focus on two communities, Nakuru and Baringo County. So They Can's holistic Programs, initially centred around the school we built, Aberdare Ranges Primary School in Nakuru, are now being replicated in Baringo County, a community approximately 165km north of Nakuru.

Our work in Kenya exists to bring about quality education outcomes for each and every child in the schools in which we work. Our focus is on the child, the teacher, the school, the parents and the community to ensure we can deliver on our vision.

At the core of So The Can’s Education Collaborative is the Mamire Teachers’ College, the only public private Teachers' Training College in Tanzania.

Our College speaks directly to the need, addressing the alarming teacher deficit. Our goal is to qualify excellent teachers and enhance the 26 local government schools we work with to create excellent learning environments in the Babati District of Tanzania.

We're aligned to the

UN Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

We’ve aligned our programs with the SDGs. Our agenda intersects with many of the goals, with a primary focus on Education, as well as a strong focus through our Enhancement Programs on Health, Gender Equality and Partnerships.

Our work touches on many more SDGs, including End Poverty For All and Climate Action. The Brookings Institution calls secondary schooling for girls the most cost-effective and best investment against climate change. Research also suggests that girls’ education reduces a country’s vulnerability to natural disasters.
