Tanzania Education Program Annual Update 2025: Impact, Resilience, and Partnerships
Published 19th Feb, 2026
It’s live!
We are delighted to share our Tanzania Education Program Annual Update for 2025 with our supporters.
2025 was a year like no other. The news of the decimation of USAID was devastating, and worsened when additional bilateral donors across Sub-Saharan Africa made significant reductions to their aid budgets too. The team at So They Can was truly grateful for the ongoing support of our donors and learnt just how important our sustainable development model is.
Centering Private-Public Partnerships, our model is built to withstand external shocks. We are so proud that despite the turbulence of 2025, more than 20,000 children in Tanzania across 34 underserved primary and secondary schools accessed quality education in 2025. Supporters like you made this possible.

The Annual Update summarises the impact of the 7 interconnected projects that fall under our Education Program in Tanzania for 2025. We encourage our network to read the full report here. For now, access some of the key highlights below:
– The “My Voice” project continued to strengthen awareness of children’s rights and leadership across So They Can supported schools in Babati, Tanzania. 570 students were trained as Pupil Council Leaders, 20 Youth Savings and Loan Associations were established, and 504 school stakeholders participated in refresher training on child rights. 290 children took part in International Day of the African Child commemorations, 986 children participated in Scouts’ activities, and 150 children engaged in ward-level sports events. To see the full impact of the My Voice project in Tanzania in 2025, see page 5 of the Annual Update.
– The “Msomi Scholars” project supported access to secondary education for 44 students who otherwise would not have been able to continue their studies in 2025. Following the award and continuation of scholarships at the start of the academic year, students received ongoing mentoring and support to help them achieve their personal best. This included a Mentorship Camp held in Q2, which guided scholars through sessions on children’s rights, academic performance, career pathways, discipline, and positive behaviours that support both academic success and personal development. To see the full impact of the Msomi Scholars project in Tanzania in 2025, see page 8 of the Annual Update.
– The “Teacher Development” project ensured that teaching quality and professional practice across So They Can supported schools continued to improve every day. 87 teachers were trained to identify children with special needs, resulting in 919 children being screened for disabilities. 116 teachers participated in refresher training on Gender Responsive Pedagogy, while 120 teachers took part in a three-day best practice pedagogy training to support shared learning and classroom improvement. 114 teachers engaged in 13 cross-learning school visits for peer-to-peer observation, 100 teachers completed ICT training facilitated by partner Camara Education, and 286 teachers participated in International Teachers’ Day commemorations.
