  3. One family’s story

This family from East Pokot in Kenya was in dire need. When our team met them, 3 of their 6 children were severely malnourished and required hospitalisation. They needed emergency assistance to rebuild their lives after severe drought and cattle raids, and their father was suffering from depression.

So They Can offered support to this family, reaching them through both our Family Strengthening Program and our Education Collaborative. The children are now healthy and attending Lemyuek Primary School — one of the most needy schools in our Education Collaborative — so they can have the best chance of receiving a quality education to break the poverty cycle. And thanks to the generosity of our donors, a new classroom has recently been built at this school.

At home, the father is receiving the psychological support he needed, and both parents are working to generate an income and provide food for their family. Their house is now dry and water-tight, and there is a plan in place to support the re-building and sustainability of their cattle business.
