Tertiary Scholarships for promising students
Published 8th Oct, 2023
Brilliant news! 7 young women and 2 young men were recently awarded So They Can’s Msomi Scholarship for Tertiary Students.
These exceptional students have shown great determination and resilience, despite the multiple barriers they have faced in their short lives, to achieve outstanding academic results. The scholarship will provide financial support for their tuition fees, and accommodation, for the duration of their degree.
It’s hard to believe that we met these students when we opened the doors of our first school, Aberdare Ranges Primary School in Kenya. More than a decade later their commitment to better themselves through education is stronger than ever. Anthony is one such student.
Anthony was raised by his grandparents, and has always been a conscientious student. His dream to become an engineer is now becoming a reality. With his result in the Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education in February he was accepted into a 4-year Bachelors of Technology in Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Kenya in Nairobi.
‘When I become successful, I want to help other learners access education. In the same way that So They Can has walked together with me through my education journey.’
Anthony, 2023 Msomi Tertiary Scholar
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically target equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university education. It is defined as a target, because achieving this assures that young adults have relevant skills to secure decent work, and are more likely to generate a stable income.
These 9 scholars show great promise for becoming skilled young people who will be productive members, and leaders, in their communities.Their chosen fields of studies are diverse and range from engineering, information technology, public relations, commerce to hospitality management at universities across the country.
As they embark on this exciting new chapter, please join us in wishing them every success!
